Welcome to Tremadog

Tremadog is arguably the birthplace of town planning in Wales, certainly the birthplace of Lawrence of Arabia, and possibly of Frankenstein!

The Village, an exceptionally fine example of a planned town near Porthmadog (in Gwynedd, North Wales), was founded by William Alexander Madocks, who bought the land in 1798. The historic centre of Tremadog was complete by 1811, and indeed this part of the town remains substantially unaltered to this day.

Tremadog has a very strong community spirit and is a thriving Welsh-speaking village (the language is in everyday use). Traditionally, the locals are welcoming to their valued visitors. For more information about Tremadog and the surrounding area please visit the dedicated Tremadog Section.

Cyfeillion Cadw Tremadog (Friends of Tremadog) is a Historic Buildings Preservation Trust, set up in 1991 to protect and preserve the architectural, historical and structural heritage of Tremadog. The purpose of the trust is to acquire and repair buildings of historic interest; and to sell or lease them, returning any profit to the fund for the next project.

Cyfeillion Cadw Tremadog is a registered charity, with all profits going towards the preservation and repair of historic buildings in Tremadog.
